From January 12-15, audiences in the Great Hall of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in Alexandria, will be treated to a version of the opera sung in colloquial Egyptian.
The production, which features singers from Cairo, the United States and young artists from the BA Arts School, was adapted from Emanuel Schikanaeder’s original libretto for Mozart’s opera. The opera is a joint collaboration in the hopes of promoting modern Egyptian theater.
